Polylimneo (many lakes)

This is a series of small lakes and waterfalls set in a wooded gorge about 30 minutes drive from the villas, and we would highly recommend a visit to this amazingly beautiful place during your stay. It is well signposted and easy to find. There is a car park and quite a steep walk down a path to the river.

You then make your way upstream via bridges and along paths through the rocks past several small falls and limpid pools, dancing with butterflies and damsel flies, until you reach the largest waterfall. Some people enjoy taking a plunge into the cool turquoise water of the pool. You can then continue up a steep, rather precipitous bank and walk a further section, or return the way you came.

This is the nearest town to the villas and has a special charm of its own. You will find several cafes and tavernas around the town square with the church in the centre. There is a charming fishing harbour and a lovely promenade alongside the sea. It is very pleasant to sit and have a coffee around the square or by the water and watch the world go by. There are also plenty of shops in the town and a lively market on Fridays.

Kalamata is a large city and port about 40 minutes drive from the villas. It has all the shops you could imagine, plus a modern hospital on the outskirts of the town and a fine marina.

The town has a character all of its own- the main square is large and has many bars and cafes, plus banks and stylish shops all around. There is an old railway with many old engines set in gardens with streams and pools.

The sea front is a wonderful place for a lively atmosphere, plenty of bars and tavernas line the front and run along the back of the beach.

If you walk past the port you will arrive at the marina where there are several good tavernas and the marina bar itself is a lovely place to have a drink and snack.

A small and charming village on the West Coast in Navarino Bay. Enchanting place to sit and eat a delicious Greek meal while looking across the bay at the Island. There are also a few lovely naturist beaches nearby to relax and swim.

Koroni is a delightful harbour town at the southernmost tip of our peninsula. Built on a hillside, there are winding lanes and steps up through the houses to the remains of a Venetian castle which is interesting to visit and has wonderful views. The town is very pretty, a fishing harbour with cafés and tavernas along the side, right at the water’s edge. A really fantastic place much loved by both ourselves and our guests.

Finikounda is a very picturesque fishing village on the south coast between Koroni and Methoni. The setting is really beautiful as the village nestles in a bay with lovely scenery around it. There are bars and tavernas along the back of the beach and alongside the fishing harbour. Nearby Anemomilos beach is a wonderful large sandy beach with a naturist section.

This is a lovely harbour town on the Southern end of Navarino Bay on the West Coast. From certain areas of the town you can enjoy the most beautiful sunsets. There is a wonderful large square behind the port with many tavernas and cafes situated under some venerable old plane trees. The back-streets are pleasant to wander around and there is a very good castle and museum to visit.

The Taygetos Mountains and the Mani

To the east of Kalamata on the opposite shore from us is a wonderful mountainous area with stunning views of the sea and lovely old villages. There are some well known resorts on this coast, such as Stoupa and Kitries, with correspondingly larger crowds, but it is well worth a day out. Towards the south of the peninsula are some caves that are well worth a visit.

The website for the Diros Caves is here.
